M.A.L.S. Wesleyan University
A true artist who doesn’t go a day without paint under his nails or clay on his trousers, Ned is especially talented as a watercolorist. Reflecting upon and celebrating the ten year anniversary of the opening of the Arts Center, Ned has the shortest “commute” of any teaching faculty. In fact, he walks only fifty paces from his house to turn up a kiln, help a student with an art project, or sit in on drama or choir rehearsals.
Taking his own painting career seriously, he has taken sabbaticals in the fall of 1994 and 2001 to paint and works to improve his painting skills during every vacation. He continues to teach watercolor classes to adults on Martha’s Vineyard and in Vermont during the summer.
He has received awards from the Allied Artists Association, the Kent Art Association, and the Northeast Watercolor Society, and received a First and Third Prize in Watercolor at the Martha’s Vineyard All-Island Art Show last summer. Many of Ned’s watercolors are permanently displayed in the lobby and halls of Cluett. Ned also shows his watercolors at the Southern Vermont Art Center in Manchester, VT and the Old Sculpin Gallery in Edgartown, MA, as well as locally in Pawling.
Ned coaches lower soccer and squash and chairs the Arts Department. He is also President of the Pawling Concert Series, a position he was led to by his love of classical, jazz and folk music. Ned is past president of the Independent Schools Art Instructors’ Association and a past board member of the Martha’s Vineyard Art Association.
Ned lives in Reiter House, and his wife, Maria, lives in Vermont. They have worn deep grooves on Route 22 visiting each other with their respective yellow and black Labrador retrievers.
