'Tis the Season of Giving Back

This holiday season Trinity-Pawling students and faculty joined together to assist those in need by participating in a number of community service projects.

In December the School held a "dress down day" to help raise funds for the Pawling Community Resource Center Adopt-A-Family program.  Trinity-Pawling has had a relationship with this program for nearly two decades and has raised approximately $25,000. A "dress down day" allows students and faculty to donate money and exchange "class dress" with more casual attire during the academic day.

Trinity-Pawling's a cappella group, The Trinitones, traveled to New York City to raise funds for this endeavor. The students gathered on the steps of Saint Patrick's Cathedral and sang Christmas Carols in addition to their current concert repertoire. Matt Travis, Trinity-Pawling's Musical Director added, "This effort is a perfect way to reinforce to our students that the season is more about giving than receiving." The money they raised in NYC was added to the dress down funds. The combined efforts of the School community generated close to $1,000 for a local family in need.

Trinity-Pawling also took part in an annual Red Cross Blood Drive on campus.  Athletic trainer and Science teacher Emily Tucci gave an inspiring chapel talk about the importance of giving blood.  Her compelling speech motivated a large number of donors, including 46 faculty, administration and students.

In November Trinity-Pawling students held a fundraiser to support a local family who lost so much due to Hurricane Sandy. During the storm a fallen tree destroyed their home and took the lives of two young boys.  T-P students, on their own initiative, responded to this tragedy with a small financial contribution. Jack Margiotta ’13 added, “We recognize this is a small gesture considering what this family went through. But we felt we had to do whatever we could to help.”

The hurricane left so many lives and homes devastated.  On November 11th, a group of Trinity-Pawling faculty members and students spent their Sunday helping those in the Rockaways, Queens, NY clean up after the disaster of Sandy.  T-P joined forces with Team Rubicon, and traveled to a number of homes to aid in relief efforts.  Appealing to local businesses to donate items that were in short supply (extension cords, face masks, work gloves, carbon monoxide detectors, contractor bags, flashlights and batteries) the School contributed these items to the relief efforts and the items were immediately distributed to homes in need.
