Step 1: Choose and investigate topic - use reference books, textbook, even Wikipedia for this ~
Step 2: Design search strategy - choose keywords, dates, places, time periods to narrow topic. See Big6TM Research Skills Organizer.
Step 3: Find and review books on topic - use TP's Online Catalog first
Step 4: Find and review database articles; go to Library Resource Center page, get passwords from library, or portal element
Step 5: Find and review websites.
Use advanced search options when you can and evaluate your sites first!
Use Boolean Operators:

Step 6: Evaluate sources, keep track of who said what with Works Cited Cards
Step 7: Outline, then re-read assignment - any holes to fill?
Step 8: Use MLA format to cite sources; use software such as Easybib to simplify, but check for thoroughness.
Step 9: Need help with parenthetical citations? Make sure you're not plagiarizing another's words! Use Turnitin software.
