Football - Lower
vs. Kent School
|Date:||October 2, 2017|
The Pride came out hot in this one as the defense forced a quick stop on the first drive and then quarterback Brandon Lombardo ‘20 led the Pride offense downfield with an efficient passing attack. Phip Waugh ‘19 proved to be Lombardo’s favorite target on the first drive as he found him multiples times including a big gain down the right sideline to start the game and finally in the corner of the endzone on a big third and goal for the first pride touchdown. The Pride rushing attack also looked good to start as Budd Desir ‘20 found plenty of running room outside of the tackle box. After a successful first drive, Kent began blitzing the middle heavily and the Pride struggled to adjust. Kent would take an 8-6 lead in the second quarter after a successful two-point conversion try.
The Pride offense looked to be in trouble deep in their own territory with less than two minutes to go and still trailing 8-6 when Linus Wramage ‘20 managed to turn a broken play off of a bad snap into a huge 40 yard gain to flip the field and more important give the Pride some much needed momentum. Lombardo would take over from here, finding Waugh again in the endzone for their second connection of the game. After an unsuccessful two-point conversion, the Pride went into the break leading 12-8.
Unfortunately, TP was not able to get anything going in the second half and the Kent rushing attack wore the Pride defense down. The started to gain the edge regularly and move the ball in chunks. The Pride rallied late to try and even the game up but were ultimately unsuccessful and fell to Kent 22-12. They will travel to Kent later on in the season to try and tie up the season series.
