Hockey - Varsity
vs. Kingswood-Oxford School
|Event Type:||Regular (League event)|
|Date:||February 17, 2012|
Senior Captain Max Franzone ’12 (Nanuet, NY) tallied his first career goal in the Blue and Gold at 8:02 in the first and added two helpers the day to get the Pride back on the winning track with a 5-0 win over Founders League foe Kingswood-Oxford.
Franzone ’12, whose invaluable play in all situations during his tenure, was the beneficiary of some good ole fashion hard work by linemates Kyle Zacharewicz ’14 (Ludlow, MA) and Jay Lamot ’14 (Coventry, CT). Zacharewicz ’14 found Franzone ’12 open in the slot for a twisted wrister that ricochet off the post and in. Franzone ’12 would return the favor three minutes later as he found Zacharewicz ’14 who went looking for the cookie jar lifting the puck over the goaltender's shoulder to make it 2-0. The Pride looked to be rolling when Jimmy Burt ’12 (Hamden, CT) buried his team leading 10th goal of the season less than 30 seconds later with assists going to Andrew Zona ’13 (Wallingford, CT) and Charlie Zuccarini ’14 (Shelton, CT). The Pride took a 3-0 lead into the first intermission.
T-P carried the momentum into the second as they continued to pour the pressure on K-O. The shots and scoring chances would come in waves, but the K-O netminder was tough to beat and would not break. Kyle Zacharewicz ’14 however, was able to crack the code as he would bang home his 2nd of the game on a powerplay goal from Franzone ’12 and RJ Bishop ’13 (East Haven, CT).
It looked as though the Pride may skate away with this one as Zuccarini ’14 scored just 23 seconds into the third from Burt ’12 and Tanner Zacharewicz ’13 (Ludlow, MA) to put T-P up 5-0, but K-O continued their gritty play determined to get one of their own. Trinity-Pawling goaltender Greg Harney ’14 (East Haven, CT) would not falter and was perfect on the day stopping all 10 shots he faced including a spectacular post to post save midway through the third to preserve his first career shutout win in the Blue and Gold. The Pride had a little giddy-up in their step on this balmy evening in Tirrell Arena as they finished the game with 63 shots.
Trinity-Pawling hits the home stretch of their season by hosting Hotchkiss @ 3:30PM tomorrow (Saturday) afternoon.
