Dear Trinity-Pawling Community,
The purpose of this letter is to update you of the School's current guidelines and procedures with regard to international travel. Due to the rapidly evolving situation surrounding the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak, Trinity-Pawling will be closely monitoring Travel.state.gov and CDC.gov for important information and updating its guidelines as necessary.
On January 30, 2020, the School suspended all visitors from China to campus, unless it could be documented that they had been out of China and asymptomatic of fever, cough, or pulmonary infection for at least 14 days.
Currently, no student or faculty member may travel to an infected area with a Travel Advisory Level 3 or 4 (travel.state.gov/travelsafely) without having the same assurance of a 14-day illness-free window before returning to campus. Such an approach is consistent with the information provided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention that reference a 14-day incubation period for the virus. This restriction is mandatory and will be in place until notified otherwise.
If you choose to travel to countries that have travel restrictions and you live on campus, you will need to find alternate off-campus lodging until you've reached the clearance window. We appreciate your attention to these guidelines and apologize for the potential disruption in your plans.
Trinity-Pawling will remain open during the March break, with special arrangements and programming to accommodate our international students who are unable to travel home.
It is understandable that the heightened global attention toward the outbreak of the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) underscores the seriousness of this medical situation. It is also important to underscore, however, that the School remains vigilant and proactive in its response to all health threats.
Please know that the health and well-being of members of the community are always at the forefront of the School's focus and priorities.
Here is a summary of Trinity-Pawling's travel guidelines for the upcoming March break:
1. Travel outside the United States: As per Travel.state.gov guidelines, China is at Level 4 and South Korea and Italy are at Level 3 travel warnings, where travel both to and from these countries has been or may be restricted. Japan, Hong Kong, and Spain are currently at a Level 2 alert. The CDC and U.S. Department of State have listed additional countries in which to exercise extra caution when traveling.
2. If you are traveling internationally over March break, we ask that you contact Dutch Keel, our Dean of Residential Life to discuss your travel plans and possible situations that may arise upon your return. All students and faculty are to abide by the following:
3. Returning to campus after March break: There is always the possibility that students or faculty members may become sick with the flu or other illnesses while at home for the break. If this is the case, we ask that any affected person not return to campus until they are symptom-free and fever-free without medication for at least 24 hours. We also ask that parents who are ill remain at home and visit when they are healthy.
Trinity-Pawling's travel guidelines are in anticipation of additional Travel.state.gov and CDC.gov travel restrictions, and to ensure the health and well-being of every member of the Trinity-Pawling community.
In community,
