Dear Parents,
We know that a number of you have reached out to the School inquiring as to how remote learning this spring term would impact your tuition account for the year. Thank you for your patience as we considered the implications of this unprecedented situation so that we could assess our overall operational costs and determine what the School could do in terms of a credit back to students' tuition accounts.
Our annual costs of operation are primarily fixed at the beginning of the academic year. Salaries and benefits have been committed to, institutional insurance has been contracted, the capital improvements and maintenance to our facilities are primarily done over the summer months during the early months of our fiscal year, and financial aid has been fixed for the academic year. These expenses make up the vast majority of the School's annual operating budget.
The past several weeks, we have been assessing our operating budget to identify any areas of savings that will be achieved at the end of the fiscal year so that we can share them with you. There are areas of the budget where we were able to find savings: food service, athletics, student activities, utilities, as well as some smaller areas of the overall budget. The School feels that these savings should be shared with both our boarding and day students as they all have contributed toward these costs.
For Upper School students, the School will be providing a credit to a full pay boarding student's account of $2,550 and to a full pay day student's account of $1,075. Those students who receive financial aid and/or enrolled after the initial start of school will have their credit calculated in proportion to their contractual obligation for the academic year.
The School is keenly aware of the financial demands that we are all facing, which no one had envisioned just a couple of months ago. If you happen to be in a position where you can consider applying your credit to the School's annual fund to support financial aid for students in the 2020-21 academic year, the School would be most appreciative. We know that there will be an increased need for financial assistance to some of our families. You can notify Kasey Diotte, in our Student Accounts Office, of your intent to make this contribution via email at kdiotte@trinitypawling.org or by phone at 845-855-4815. Your credit will be processed as a gift to the School and you will receive a receipt for your tax-deductible contribution.
For those who are not able to make such a donation, the School will provide your credits in the following way:
This pandemic has transformed our world and it is transforming our lives. For adolescents, learning how to be resilient is one of the key factors in a healthy transition to adulthood. While there has been much loss associated with these challenges, what has perhaps been gained is an opportunity for schools and parents to foster a deeper foundation of resilience in the lives of your sons, our students. As an institution, Trinity-Pawling is also resilient. Amidst the challenges, I have faith that the School will emerge from these challenges renewed by the strength and resilience of its community.
