Dear Day Student Parents,
First, I would like to thank you for your patience as we have worked through the various challenges of re-opening the School for the Spring Term. We are excited to be able to welcome our Day Students back to in-person learning this term.
The purpose of this letter is to underscore the communication already shared with you by Mr. Collins. As I watch the transmission of the virus rise in our immediate area, I would be remiss if I did not say that it concerns me. We are buoyed by the fact that we are testing all of our students and all of our campus residents each week. This is a reassuring barometer of what the status of the virus is on campus.
While students are on campus, we have many measures in place to help to mitigate the possible spread of the virus. We maintain strict distancing in buildings. We are vigilant about face-coverings. We prohibit students from one dormitory entering another dormitory. For the most part, the students have been helpful and cooperative with these measures. They have done so, because they understand that an outbreak of the virus on campus could lead to its closure. This would be devastating for the students and the faculty, particularly the senior class.
During the Winter Term, we allowed day students to board so to limit the travel on and off the campus at a time when school activities were mostly limited to the indoors. As we head into warmer weather, we are excited to welcome our Day Students back to campus.
In order to maximize our efforts to mitigate the potential transmission of the virus, it is imperative that your son limit his interactions while off campus. As has been communicated, participation in gatherings of ten or more is not permissible if a day student is to be allowed to travel back and forth to the campus.
If you feel that your son has been in a situation where he may have been in close contact with someone outside of the School's COVID testing pool who is also outside of your family unit, we ask your support in requesting that he attend classes remotely until he can be tested again in the normal weekly cycle of testing.
Furthermore, with Sunday being Easter, if you believe that your son has interacted with others where masks were not worn and/or distancing was not maintained, please have him attend classes remotely to start the new week of classes. We have the technology to facilitate active participation while being remote.
Finally, please understand that this communication is not intended to isolate day students as a larger threat as it pertains to the virus. Rather, it is to simply acknowledge that Day Students have a greater likelihood to interact with others who are outside of our regular testing pool. Therefore, they have a greater responsibility to maintain the similar protocols that are in place for our Boarding Students.
Thank you for your understanding and for your cooperation.
