Dear Parents,
The month of September flew by and it is hard to believe that we are already in the fourth week of school. Classes, athletics, and residential life are going quite well; we are fortunate to be participating in full classes, interscholastic sports, family-style meals, and weekend leaves off campus.
The area in which I am writing today focuses on weekend leaves – especially those which include sports outside of Trinity-Pawling. As a school, we acknowledge the value of playing sports outside of the Trinity-Pawling athletic program once school commitments have concluded on weekends.
First, there have been a number of requests to leave campus for non-school athletic events on Saturday. The vast majority of our Saturday mornings are part of our overall academic program. While we do not have classroom instruction on Saturday mornings, we often have other instruction that is different in nature, but equally as valuable in terms of the School's overall academic program and priorities. We will not be granting permission to miss educational programs on Saturday mornings so that a student can participate in a non-school athletic event.
Secondly, another area of concern has emerged which involves injuries sustained while participating in sports outside of school. Should your son sustain an injury while off campus at an event not affiliated with Trinity-Pawling, we ask that you disclose the injury immediately upon his return to campus. Furthermore, if the acuity of an injury requires immediate medical attention, we ask that you have your child seen at a healthcare facility before he returns to campus. Trinity-Pawling requires that a copy of the medical report be presented to the Health and Wellness Center upon his return to campus. The report should state the injury, restrictions from further exercise, and any follow-up care that may be necessary.
If your son returns to campus with an injury and the Health and Wellness Center clears him to be in the dormitory the night of his return, he must then check in with the Health and Wellness Center on Monday morning after 8:00 AM for further evaluation.
If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to Dr. Marilyn Lashlee, Director of the Health and Wellness Center, at mlashlee@trinitypawling.org 845-855-4848, or Tami Harrah, Director of Nursing, at tharrah@trintypawling.org. Of course you may also contact me at 845-855-4882 or by email jcollins@trinitypawling.org with any questions.
Thank you for your continued cooperation.
Sincerely,
