November 1, 2021 Updates from the College Counseling Office
November is upon us! To the many who seniors have finalized and submitted their first round of applications, congratulations! Some seniors still have November 15th deadlines or University of California applications to be aware of; however, the bulk of the college process for the Class of 2022 has been completed. Seniors now must shift their focus to ensuring that all materials are received by colleges and finalizing any supplemental essays or applications for their remaining deadlines.
As always, our office is here to support students and families as they continue to navigate this process.
- Scott Harff, Director of College Counseling Updates for Seniors
Early Decision Agreements Students who have applied Early Decision should ensure that their parents sign their Early Decision consent form. Without this form, students' applications will not be considered complete. Please speak with your college counselor if you have any questions.
University of California Applications Due November 30th All schools within the University of California (UC) system share an application. These are due on November 30th. Students must be aware that these deadlines are firm and, although we would love to, we cannot advocate for them should them fail to meet the deadline for submission. If you are applying to a UC school, please plan to begin your application soon. Completing the UC application is far more time consuming than the Common Application, so start early!
Submitting Transcripts, Recommendations, and Test Scores It is the student's responsibility to ensure that they contact the College Office using this form to request that their initial transcript be sent to colleges that they apply to. This form will also indicate where we should send your Teacher Recommendations.
It is important to note that it is the student's responsibility to submit any standardized testing to schools. Trinity-Pawling cannot submit SAT, ACT, or TOEFL scores on a student's behalf.
Application Portals As students submit applications they will be prompted via email to set up portals at each respective school. These portals are important resources for students and families. Schools update these portals to reflect which materials have been received for each application. It is the student's responsibility to check these portals frequently to ensure that all materials have been delivered to their colleges. If you are missing any materials, please reach out to your college counselor in a timely manner so that we can assist you in re-submitting any materials.
Schools also may email or text students directly to alert them about missing materials. If you receive a notification of this kind, please reach out to your college counselor.
FAFSA and CSS Profile Workshop Completing the FAFSA and CSS Profile in a timely manner is imperative if you are applying for financial aid. I highly encourage that each family watch the recording of Paul Martin's workshop. Paul is a fantastic resource for those filling out the FAFSA and CSS Profile for the first time.
We will host two more webinars featuring Paul that parents of seniors are invited to attend.
Updates for Juniors
Financial Aid Webinars for Juniors Junior parents are invited to two financial aid webinars this year. Each will be hosted on Zoom.
College Launch Day: Guests On Wednesday, December 15, 2021, the College Office will host our annual College Launch Day. We have finalized our panelists and are excited to announce that the University of Vermont, Denison University, and Providence College will be joining us!
Upon the students' return to school in January, Mr. Dunham and I will officially begin working with the juniors on their college process. Please stay tuned for more details on our event in December. ACT Sign Ups
