The Trinity-Pawling Varsity Football team fell to 0-2, in their 2017 season, by losing to a determined
Loomis-Chaffee (1-3), in a penalty-filled game that went back and forth until the end. Indeed, the game
was not decided until there were 15 seconds remaining on the clock.
T-P recovered an on-side kick to start the game, but the Offense was forced to punt. The Loomis
Offense, however, marched right down the field on their first possession to make the score 7-0. After a
defensive stand by each team, The Pride were able to get on the board, during the 2 nd Quarter, on a nifty
8-yard TD run by Re’mahn Davis ’19. The point after touchdown was blocked, and the score at halftime
was 7-6, in favor of Loomis.
Trinity-Pawling wasted no time in scoring at the beginning of the 2 nd half. The Offense took just 3 plays
to score, this time on a 65-yard scamper by Fullback Chizurum (Chiz) Umunakwe ’18. Eddie Gonzalez ’19
converted the PAT this time, and the score was T-P 13, Loomis-Chaffee 7.
Unfortunately, T-P gave up the lead on the next play from scrimmage. Loomis also converted the PAT,
and just like that, the score was Loomis 14, T-P 13. The score remained that way as the third quarter
came to a close.
At the start of the 4 th Quarter, the Pride Offense went on their only long drive of the day. However, the
drive stalled at the Loomis 9 yard line, and T-P was forced to settle for a 15-yard Eddie Gonzalez field
goal. The score just a few minutes into the 4 th Quarter was T-P 16, Loomis-Chaffee 14. That was the
third lead change of the day.
Loomis received the kickoff and stubbornly sustained another long drive downfield. Loomis scored on a
1-yard TD run and converted the kick, and the Pride were again on the down side of a 21 to 16 score. It
was the 4 th lead change, but not the last. Neither team was willing to concede defeat in this one.
T-P took the Loomis kickoff and started at the T-P 41. On the third play of the drive, Ray Davis again hit
paydirt on a 46-yard TD run – his second Touchdown of the day. T-P went for the two-point conversion,
but Davis was stopped just short of the goal line. The score, with 2:13 to go in the game, was in favor of
Loomis-Chaffee, was unwavering against falling to 0-4 in their next drive. T-P was able to prevent the
Touchdown, but Loomis kicked a 37-yard field goal with 15 seconds to play to win the game 24-22.
Next up for the Pride is Taft.
