Track & Field - Varsity
Since the construction of the new track in 2004, participation in Track and Field at Trinity-Pawling has increased significantly. Each season the team competes in dual meets against Founder's League opponents, the Penn Relays, the Founder's League Championship meet and the Division 1 New England Prep School Championship meet.
Recent teams have been successful. In 2006, T-P hosted and won the Founder's League Championship Meet for the first time and finished second at the Division 1 New England Track and Field Championships. Over the past several seasons, numerous T-P athletes have won individual events at these meets. The relay teams have been successful as well, highlighted by a second place finish in the Prep division of the 4x100 at the Penn Relays in 2006.
This year the team hopes to continue the traditions established by past teams. The captains continually challenge the athletes to "work to their potential". This concept fits with the USATF slogan of "athletes first, winning second" which sums up the philosophy of the coaching staff. Workouts are tailored to the skill level of each athlete and each athlete is given different performance goals throughout the season. In this way, athletes with a variety of backgrounds and skill sets are given the opportunity to compete and to improve their overall fitness. T-P track and field athletes have gone on to compete in a variety of college athletics including track and field, cross country, football, ice hockey, soccer, cycling and basketball.
